Position Summary

Our Greenville, SC administrative office has an opportunity for an experienced Database Administrator to join the firm’s expanding Technology Department. The Database Administrator is responsible for leading the design, installation, maintenance, and upgrades of the Firm’s SQL server databases.  The administrator must have significant technical expertise in the use of SQL database technology. The administrator will work closely the SQL Manager, with business unit members, and other IT staff to understand business requirements and ensure that application systems utilizing SQL properly function to meet business needs, delivering value across the organization.  The administrator will work closely with the SQL Manager to ensure daily maintenance, logging, reporting, backups, updates, etc. are handed in a timely and efficient manner.

Database Administrator duties include monitoring and analyzing performance metrics, and allocating database resources to achieve optimum database performance.  Administrator will proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.  Responsible for supporting and closely following plans and instructions from the SQL Manager in support of all SQL operations delegated to the administrator.  Responsible for assisting in troubleshooting and problem-solving SQL development and runtime issues, improvement and maintenance of all databases, to include rollout and upgrades. Additional duties include working with related process stakeholders to identify and resolve related problems and issues as well as realize efficiencies as a result of process and system improvements.

Essential Functions

  • Develop, test, document, implement, and maintain SQL infrastructure for departmental or Firm initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot, support and maintain all SQL systems.
  • Analyze and identify time-sensitive system problems that could have an impact on business operations.
  • Communicate effectively to non-technical customers and sponsors.
  • Proactively and effectively communicate potential problems, solutions and accomplishments to management.
  • Analyze existing processes and identify dependencies and potential break points, and recommend and implement improved technical solutions.
  • Partner with internal customers to understand requirements in business terms and translate those requirements into technical solutions, includes developing new capabilities as well as break/fix.
  • Develop specific SDLC documentation.
  • Ensure approval of technical solutions from IT management and key stakeholders.
  • Write functional specifications.
  • Continuously develop technical and professional skills.
  • Evaluate user requests for new / modified programs.
  • Install and test programs; monitor program performance after implementation.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of SQL Server database administration experience.
  • Four year degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer technology, management information systems, or related fields of study or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Azure SQL experience preferred.
  • Experience in the installation and configuration of Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience in database administration, database monitoring and tuning, and physical database development.
  • Understands the principles, theories, practices and techniques of SQL Server database administration.
  • Extensive experience managing multiple MS SQL 2005/2008/2012/2014 servers on enterprise-class server clusters running Windows 2003/2008/2012.
  • Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service.
  • Experience with T-SQL, DTS, SSIS and stored procedures.
  • Practical experience in managing internal and external Microsoft SQL Server database security.
  • Experience with Replication, Log Shipping, Database Mirroring, and Availability Groups.
  • Understanding of High Availability, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery concepts as they relate to Open Systems architecture.
  • Knowledge of system life cycle and application development alternatives.
  • High aptitude for complex problem analysis and resolution.
  • Experience in the following knowledge areas, competencies, and experience: Applications Administration, Systems Administration, Database Administration, Systems Analysis, Business Analysis and Project Management.
  • Law firm experience a plus.
  • Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, MS Project.
  • ITIL and process knowledge highly encouraged.
