Three bills were introduced on October 6, 2008 (S2176, S2177, S2178) relating to programs for workers laid off as the result of plant closings. S2176 would allow a former employee of an employer that violated the state plant closing law to request a suspension of interest payments on certain prior home mortgages. S2177 allows for the Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development or the Attorney General to request that the court grant an injunction against any employer that violates the provisions of the state plant closing law. S2178 would allow for increased opportunities for employees affected by plant closings to participate in tuition-free job training in all public and county colleges in New Jersey, so long as those employees are ineligible for state or federal financial aid.
