Continuing with the subject of prevailing wage requirements, on December 7, 2009 the Assembly passed a bill (A4268) which would extend prevailing wage requirements to any work on a maintenance-related project that exceeds the scope of work and capabilities of in-house maintenance personnel, requires the solicitation of bids, and has an aggregate value exceeding $50,000. The Senate Labor Committee also approved the bill, which now awaits a vote by the full Senate. If passed, the bill will significantly alter the scope of “maintenance work” subject to the prevailing wage requirements. Currently, the scope of “maintenance work” is the repair of existing facilities when the size, type or extent of such facilities is not thereby changed or increased.
