Amended regulations governing disability discrimination, reasonable accommodation, and the interactive process under the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) became effective on December 30, 2012.

The regulations range from accommodations to allow “assistive animals” into the workplace to using performance reviews to help determine essential job functions. The new regulations also highlight the importance of engaging in an interactive process with the employee when addressing reasonable accommodations.
