Derek is an experienced labor and employment attorney who represents employers in labor and employment law matters. Derek’s practice includes negotiating collective bargaining agreements, representing clients in arbitration, mediation, and in front of administrative bodies including the Oregon Employment Relations Board and the National Labor Relations Board.
Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, Derek practiced as an attorney representing and advising clients in employment law matters including human resources matters, employment agreements, severance agreements, and non-competes. Derek also has practical experience in a Fortune top 50 company making tough labor and human resources decisions. Derek’s work included negotiating collective bargaining agreements, workplace investigations, policy compliance, employment and disciplinary matters, wage and hour issues, and grievance handling. Derek started his legal career representing public sector labor organizations, including strike-prohibited public safety employees. His experience there included grievance arbitrations, interest arbitrations, unfair labor practices, organizing, and collective bargaining. Derek applies that broad experience and knowledge to help clients avoid risk with pragmatic solutions.
