Elizabeth (Liz) Lash is a privacy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI) governance attorney. She has nearly two decades of experience across government, in-house, and consulting roles. Liz advises general counsels’ offices, chief privacy officers, and data protection officers on building and maintaining global AI and privacy programs across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC. Her work includes evaluating AI use cases, drafting and updating privacy notices and policies, and incident response plans, as well as creating commercial and privacy playbooks, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements and data processing agreements, and supporting consent management reviews. Liz also designs and delivers employee training on privacy and security laws and frameworks.
Since 2018, Liz has held in-house placements and consulting engagements with organizations including Boehringer Ingelheim, Verizon Business, Cardinal Health, The Nielsen Company, The Coca-Cola Company, Evidation Health, and Virtuoso Travel. Previously, she was Assistant General Counsel at Kroll Associates, Inc., where she supported its forensic investigations, incident response, and breach notification businesses. There, she negotiated technology agreements with Fortune 100 and 500 companies and drafted HIPAA business associate agreements and EU Model Contracts. She also served as Corporate Counsel at FXDD, a retail foreign exchange dealer, where she advised on, among others, CFTC law and regulations, the Dodd-Frank Act, and EU regulatory matters.
Liz began her career in public service, first as a law clerk in the New Jersey Superior Court and then as a Deputy Attorney General in the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, where as part of the Securities Fraud Prosecution Section, she helped support the investigations of and prosecute multi-state civil securities fraud matters, including the Lehman Brothers’ management of the NJ Teachers’ Pension and Annuity Fund.
Liz writes and speaks on different legal matters, including privacy, cybersecurity, and AI. She has published in the Cybersecurity and AI Law Report, DataGuidance, and the Center for Art Law, and has presented at the Association of Corporate Counsel’s New York City chapter (ACC-NYC) and the Benchmark Women in Litigation Forum. She also created and hosted Entering the Bar, with Liz Lash, a podcast highlighting lawyers with unique career paths.
