Rico helps employers solve problems affecting the workplace. He provides legal and practical advice on complying with state and federal laws impacting employers. He is also an experienced litigator, representing employers in state and federal courts, before government agencies, and in arbitrations. He has taken cases to trial and obtained excellent results for his clients.
Rico also helps Higher Education employers navigate compliance with Title IX, Clery Act, and FERPA. He is a trained, trauma-informed civil rights investigator who has conducted numerous internal investigations, including investigations into sensitive allegations of sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking on college campuses. He has conducted climate assessments to gauge organizational culture and implement strategies to enhance workplace and educational environments.
Rico previously served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Executive Agencies Section, and has worked with dozens of state agencies and regulators. In that role, Rico enforced Ohio law as a civil prosecutor and defended the State of Ohio at the administrative, trial court, and appellate court levels. He draws on that experience when helping employers navigate government investigations.
Rico frequently speaks on important legal developments affecting employers, and is co-host of Ogletree Deakin’s webinar series “What’s Trending in Employment Law?” He routinely provides employers training on preventing workplace harassment and discrimination, and compliance with Title IX.
Rico co-chairs the Firm’s Latinx business resource group ODAdelante, and is a DEI Ambassador for the Firm’s Cleveland Office. He is an active member of the Hispanic National Bar Association.
