Hanna B. Raanan

Ms. Raanan represents clients in complex wage and hour litigation, involving claims for employee misclassification, rounding violations, regular rate of pay issues, meal/rest period compliance, expense reimbursement, off-the-clock issues, as well as derivative claims under California’s Unfair Competition law and Private Attorneys General Act.  

During her career, Ms. Raanan has represented a range of businesses, from small family-owned businesses and start-ups to large financial institutions.  Ms. Raanan is actively involved in the local legal community as an executive committee member of the Orange County Bar Association’s Labor & Employment section.  

Ms. Raanan is also co-chair of the American Cancer Society’s Newport Beach 2016 Relay for Life and volunteers her time at a variety of ACS OC events, including Making Strides (to raise breast cancer awareness).

Ms. Raanan earned her J.D. from Southwestern Law School as a member of its two-year accelerated SCALE program.  While in law school, she was a recipient of an Oralist Award at the Moot Court Competition in Los Angeles.  Ms. Raanan also earned her Masters of Public Policy in Economics and International Relations from Pepperdine University and worked overseas for the U.S. Department of State in Moscow, Russia.

Ms. Raanan has experience as pro bono general counsel of LoveMyProvider.com, a startup that connects parents of special-needs children with rated and recommended special-needs service providers.

Examples of Hanna’s experience include:

  • Defended a nationwide environmental clean-up/emergency industrial spill containment company in a class action on behalf of truck drivers alleging misclassification, failure to provide meal and rest breaks, failure to pay premiums, failure to pay all wages, and resulting derivative penalty claims (Kern County Superior Court).
  • Represented and defended a worldwide student travel company in a class action on behalf of inside sales people alleging failure to pay overtime, failure to provide meal and rest breaks, failure to pay all wages, and derivative penalties. (Orange County Superior Court).
  • Represented and defended a national hospitality service company in a wage and hour class action brought on behalf of valet attendants alleging failure to pay proper wages, failure to provide meal and rest breaks, and derivative penalties and claims. (Los Angeles Superior Court).
  • Defended a pharmaceutical/science research company in a class action brought on behalf of non-exempt employees alleging failure to accurately pay overtime based on correct regular rate of pay, failure to provide meal and rest breaks, and derivative claims and penalties. (Los Angeles Superior Court).
  • Defended a national healthcare services company against a class action on behalf of LVNs and RNs alleging failure to pay for on-call hours worked and failure to pay overtime wages. (Los Angeles Superior Court).
  • Defended a national telecommunications company against a class action alleging improper piece-rate pay and failure to pay minimum wage. (San Diego Superior Court).
  • Defended a regional assisted living facility company against a class action alleging failure to pay for all hours worked and failure to pay overtime wages.
