Karen Vossler represents domestic and international employers in a variety of industries across the spectrum of employment law matters.  Drawing from a wealth of both in-house and private practice experience, she has the business acumen to strategically partner with clients to deliver pragmatic, specific and creative legal solutions to employment and labor related challenges.  She has particular expertise in helping companies manage complex employment issues through large corporate transitions, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures and workforce restructuring.  In addition, Ms. Vossler supports global companies with cross-border employment concerns.

Ms. Vossler provides clients with advice and counsel on an array of matters including, compliance and whistleblower issues, wage and hour matters; due diligence support and post-transaction integration strategies for mergers and acquisitions, workforce restructuring; reasonable accommodations; ethics and compliance; discrimination and harassment; performance management, discipline and termination; drug and alcohol testing; corporate diversity initiatives, federal contract compliance; effective use and enforcement of restrictive covenants; CBA interpretation and negotiations; and workplace investigations.  She represents clients in class action and single plaintiff litigation, in governmental investigations, before administrative agencies and in labor arbitrations; prosecutes breach of contract claims, including trade secret, non-solicitation and non-competition agreements; drafts and reviews employment policies and programs, contracts and handbooks and provides relevant and accessible legal training for employees, management, human resources professionals and executives alike.

Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, Ms. Vossler served as the Vice President and Senior Associate General Counsel, Employment and Labor at the Brickman Group Ltd., LLC, a national commercial landscaping company, where she founded the company’s labor, employment, immigration, safety and benefits in-house practice, and was Senior Employment and Labor Counsel with Tyco, a global life, safety and security company.


  • Successfully represented various clients in state and national class actions involving drive time, flexible work week and the retail sales exemption;
  • Guided client through merger with its largest competitor, including providing expert advice regarding organizational design, offers and retention bonuses, restrictive covenant agreement implementation, integrated policies, practices and systems, and organized labor implications;
  • Defended client in sexual harassment claim against the CEO of a small, family-owned business resulting in a complete dismissal of the claim with prejudice by complainant;
  • Assisted national client develop an enterprise-wide labor strategy based on identified industry and company-specific risks.
