Kendra Thornton is Counsel in the Greenville office and has practiced employment law as an attorney or human resources leader since 2003. Kendra graduated from Clemson University, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Communication Studies, and her Masters in Human Resource Development.  Kendra graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she was a member of the Real Property, Probate, and Trust Journal.

Over the last 10 years, Kendra has served as a senior HR business executive and legal counsel for two publicly held, multibillion-dollar corporations ensuring legal compliance across all areas of human resource operations. Most recently, Kendra was Vice President of Employee Relations and Regulatory Compliance directing compliance initiatives, external audits and the investigation of complaints, ensuring optimal defensibility and risk mitigation in support of 90,000 employees across the United States. Prior to working in house, Kendra was a labor and employment lawyer with Ogletree Deakins’ Charlotte office, and another Charlotte law firm.

While working in house as Corporate HR Counsel, and as an HR business leader, Kendra gained extensive experience directing compliance initiatives, internal and external audits and the investigation of employee complaints to ensure optimal defensibility and risk mitigation. Kendra collaborated with the legal department to research and interpret regulatory compliance requirements and drive compliance-related initiatives and programs, including regulatory reporting, compliance with FCC and OFCCP requirements, external audit support and on-going internal audit initiatives, including recruiting, compensation, and training initiatives. Kendra has a vast level of knowledge of how companies operate both from a human resources and legal perspective. During her time in house, Kendra was recognized for forging relationships between compliance/employee relations, legal and Human Resources business partners.

Prior to working in house, Kendra was a labor and employment lawyer representing management in employment-related matters, including defending employers against administrative charges and state and federal lawsuits involving Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, wage/hour, retaliation, wrongful discharge, breach of contract, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress and other matters arising out of employment relationships.
