Mr. Van Gorder assists in trying cases on behalf of companies in both state and federal courts. Most recently, in a jury trial in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Mr. Van Gorder was part of a litigation team that won a defense verdict on the plaintiff's USERRA discrimination claim. Mr. Van Gorder has also defended complex breach of contract actions and claims under Pennsylvania’s Wage Payment and Collection Law.
On a daily basis Mr. Van Gorder counsels companies on litigation avoidance and implementing policies that are in conformance with the various federal, state and local employment statutes and laws. Mr. Van Gorder also advises employers on a variety of human resource issues concerning hiring, disciplining, and terminating employees, and reviews and updates employment contracts, policy and procedure manuals, and employee handbooks.
Mr. Van Gorder handled a diverse range of commercial litigation matters including professional negligence, home foreclosure, construction, product liability and asbestos cases. Mr. Van Gorder is also well-versed in the local rules of civil procedure for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas as well as many other Common Pleas Courts in the surrounding counties.
