Ms. Hanrahan is co-chair of the firm's Class Action practice group. She focuses her practice on developing winning strategies for the defense of large-scale class and collective actions. While this typically includes the defense of independent contractor misclassification claims, Ms. Hanrahan also has extensive experience defending class and collective actions involving challenges to exemption status, systemic gender discrimination, and various other state and/or common law claims. Ms. Hanrahan’s experience in the class action area in particular has been repeatedly recognized by her peers in the legal community, resulting in her selection to the Georgia Super Lawyers, Rising Stars list every year since 2012. While complex litigation comprises the majority of her litigation practice, Ms. Hanrahan has also handled employment discrimination claims under virtually every federal employment discrimination statute.
In addition to her litigation experience, Ms. Hanrahan also focuses on partnering with her clients to implement and maintain legally-defensible workplace policies and agreements, focusing on risk management and compliance. This often includes drafting independent contractor agreements, handbooks, job descriptions and pay policies; conducting comprehensive wage/hour and wage/payment audits; assisting with reductions in force; and conducting management training.
Finally, Ms. Hanrahan routinely represents her clients in Department of Labor wage and hour audits and state unemployment tax audits, vigorously defending any resulting litigation. This also includes handling administrative hearings for class-based unemployment tax appeals against the Georgia Department of Labor or other state equivalent, where Ms. Hanrahan has been successful in obtaining complete reversal of class-based employee determinations and dismissal of large-scale tax assessments on behalf of several clients across multiple industries.
