Samantha K. Smith

Of Counsel Birmingham

A native of Florence, Alabama, Samantha Smith spent nearly a decade working on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., in both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives before attending law school. Since 2004, she has defended public school boards and the State of Alabama Department of Education in civil rights and employment litigation matters involving Title VII, Title IX, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act. She advised school boards and municipalities on matters pertaining to public construction, open government, land use, regulation, and taxation.

Ms. Smith graduated from Cumberland School of Law, Samford University in 2004.  While at Cumberland, she was selected for membership in the Order of the Barristers, and was winner of the Parham Williams Trial Competition, she was a member of the Cordell Hull Speakers Forum and Vice President of her class.  Ms. Smith began her professional career at the law firm of Bishop Colvin Johnson & Kent LLC.

Ms. Smith’s practice focuses on employment defense of federal administrative charges, including those filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR). She also works with the Affirmative Action and OFCCP Compliance practice group representing clients in enforcement actions, focused reviews, and corporate management reviews. Samantha advises clients on policy development, compliance, higher education, and executive compensation.
