Sarah M. Rain

Ms. Rain focuses on all aspects of traditional labor law, counseling employers on a wide range of federal and state labor law issues, including the administration of collective bargaining agreements, unfair labor practices, labor negotiations, and organizing campaigns.

Ms. Rain is a graduate of the Honors College at Michigan State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from the Eli Broad College of Business. Ms. Rain graduated cum laude from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. While in law school, Ms. Rain served as a tutorial assistant for Civil Procedure and as a Presidential Ambassador. Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, Ms. Rain spent her summers clerking for the Honorable Brian R. Sullivan and the Michigan Employment Relations Commission. In addition, Ms. Rain worked for a national labor union as well as the labor law practice group of a boutique law firm specializing in traditional labor and employment law. In these roles, Ms. Rain received extensive experience in labor arbitrations, negotiations, organizing efforts, and unfair labor practice proceedings.


Ms. Rain has a wide range of experience in all areas of traditional labor law, including:

  • Serving as chief negotiator on numerous collective bargaining agreements;
  • Representing clients in unfair labor practice and representational proceedings at the National Labor Relations Board and Michigan Employment Relations Commission;
  • Representing clients in arbitration hearings on matters including, contract interpretation issues and employee discipline;
  • Drafting and revising employee handbooks and policies; and
  • Providing client counseling on all labor law matters, including issues arising under the National Labor Relations Act, Family Medical Leave Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act
