Shontell focuses her practice on occupational safety and health law, assisting employers nationwide in enforcement matters before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission and state plan review boards and whistleblower complaints under various statutes including the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) and the Surface Transportation Assistance Act (STAA). She also advises employers on a wide variety of occupational safety and health issues including injury and illness recordkeeping, post-accident drug testing, safety incentive programs, combustible dust, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, fall protection, bloodborne pathogens, workplace violence, and heat stress. She also represents and advises clients during the development and implementation of new OSHA laws and policies.
Shontell represents employers in a wide range of industries including electric utilities, food processing, airline, trucking, manufacturing, paper mills, oil and gas, and healthcare.
Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, Shontell worked in the Office of General Counsel at the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission for over six years where she advised on OSHA cases on appeal before the Commission.
