While in private practice, Steve handled employment discrimination litigation and union avoidance advice and work before the National Labor Relations Board. He took the management side advisor role with him to Milliken & Company in 1991. Milliken is a diversified multi-nation textile and chemical manufacturer with operation in 7 countries outside of the United States. At Milliken, Steve was responsible for all global employment-related legal matters including counseling and education of all levels of Milliken leadership; management of outside legal staff and coordination of responses to lawsuits and government audits; as well as the development and application of company policies and procedures. In 2005, Steve was appointed by the Board of Directors as a member of the Benefits Administration Committee for the Company and Corporate Data Privacy Officer. He also served on the Due Diligence review team for Corporate Acquisitions.
Steve has extensive experience in responding to government investigations on a wide variety of matters, including U. S. Treasury, FBI, Customs, and Department of Commerce. Steve has lead the corporate response to a Chemical Weapons Convention investigation and export compliance under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS). He has assisted corporations on all areas of ITAR compliance from registration with the State Department Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, security plan development, employee and union notification and representation in compliance audits.
Steve advises Senior Executives and Business owners in protecting corporate intellectual property through agreements and litigation of invention assignment and non-competition agreements. He advises and drafts commercial contracts including non-disclosure and purchase and supply agreements. Steve also supports clients in corporate re-organization, ethics investigations, and litigation.
