Ogletree Deakins Expands Traditional Labor Practice in St. Louis, Welcomes John (JP) Hasman as Shareholder

   |   Press Release

ST. LOUIS – January 20, 2017 – Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to welcome John (JP) Hasman as a shareholder in the firm’s St. Louis office, expanding the firm’s traditional labor capabilities for representing employers based in Missouri and across the United States. Hasman’s arrival will also strengthen the St. Louis presence of the firm’s national Higher Education Industry Group. Hasman joins Ogletree Deakins from Armstrong Teasdale, where he served as co-chair of that firm’s Higher Education Industry group. Hasman is a former National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) attorney who also has extensive experience serving as chief negotiator in union negotiations and representing numerous clients before the NLRB and courts.

“The traditional labor environment has seen a consistent and significant amount of activity with major implications for workforces both unionized and union free,” said Eric Todd, managing shareholder of Ogletree Deakins’ St. Louis office. “Employers are seeking guidance in this area, and JP is an excellent attorney with expansive labor relations experience that includes handling matters both in front of and for the NLRB.”

In his current practice, Hasman regularly negotiates union contracts, handles unfair labor practice charges, resolves grievances, represents clients at grievance arbitrations, and manages secondary picketing issues and other strike-related litigation and matters. In addition, he assists nonunion employers with union avoidance efforts, and advises and counsels employers during union campaigns. Hasman regularly represents higher education clients, including some of the country’s largest and most esteemed colleges and universities, and has counseled many regarding adjunct faculty organizing efforts and all of their traditional labor needs. In addition to his traditional labor relations practice, Hasman counsels employers on all aspects of the employment relationship and defends them in state and federal courts against discrimination claims and other workplace-related allegations.

Hasman has been recognized nationally, including being named among the 2017 Best Lawyers in America® and the Missouri Super Lawyers® Rising Stars. Hasman is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, board member of Camp Rainbow, and advisory member of Caring Solutions. Hasman earned his J.D. from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law and earlier received his B.A. from St. Louis University.
