CHARLOTTE, N.C. – February 10, 2020 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to announce that Akya Rice, an associate in the firm’s Charlotte office, is one of 20 attorneys selected to participate in the Mecklenburg County Bar (MCB) and Mecklenburg Bar Foundation (MBF)’s 2020 Bar Leadership Institute (BLI). The BLI is designed to identify and develop leaders and offers members the opportunity develop a spirit of lasting collegiality with their fellow participants. The 2020 class will spend four months learning about leadership in the legal profession, the history of practicing law in Mecklenburg County, the role of race and poverty on Mecklenburg County’s past and future, diversity and inclusion in Mecklenburg County’s legal community and justice system, and applying leadership skills.
Rice earned her J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School and B.A. from The University of Alabama. She defends employers in employment-related litigation.
