TORONTO – April 24, 2020 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the world’s largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to announce that Hugh Christie, managing partner of the firm’s Toronto office, has been recognized in The 2020 Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory. This guide profiles leading practitioners across Canada in over 60 practice areas and leading law firms in over 40 practice areas as identified via an extensive, annual peer survey.
The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory has been published since 1997 and through its peer survey acknowledges lawyers that are considered leaders in their respective fields, lawyers prominent in their practice areas and professional organizations, and lawyers otherwise enjoying significant recognition from their colleagues. Christie successfully helped build and efficiently leads Ogletree Deakins’ Toronto office. He has practiced employment law for more than 30 years and focuses his practice on a myriad of employment law issues. This is Christie’s eighth time being listed in the directory.
Christie provides commercial and public sector clients with advice on all elements of employment law, from pre-hiring through recruitment, drafting agreements, benefit plans and policies, discipline, promotion, succession planning, termination and post-employment obligations. He deals with employment issues arising out of restructuring of the workplace as a result of corporate transactions and trans-border employment issues.
Christie has been recognized throughout his career, including listings in The Legal 500 Canada, The Best Lawyers in Canada©, and is a fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. He serves as co-chair of the Advisory Board at the Centre for Law in the Contemporary Workplace (CLCW) at Queen’s University, Faculty of Law; the CLCW is the first of its kind in Canada. Christie has lectured at the Law Society of Ontario, instructed at its Bar Admission Course, and lectured at the Canadian Bar Association, The Advocates’ Society, the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario, the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, and various universities across Canada, including the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University.
