Stephanie A. Segalini

Stephanie Segalini concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial, insurance, and employee benefits litigation, including coverage, breach of fiduciary duty, statutory penalty, and benefits claims.  In her over 20-year career, she has extensive experience in both federal and state courts, with all types of benefit disputes, especially health, life, and disability claims under ERISA. She has also assisted insurers in numerous claims for interpleader. She has served as senior advisor and lead counsel on dispute resolution issues to the nation’s largest insurance carriers, employers, employer-sponsored benefit plans, claims administrators, third party administrators, and plan administrators, and she has provided dispute resolution services in both pre-suit administrative proceedings and in state and federal litigation. She has obtained numerous successful summary judgments and appellate decisions in ERISA cases within the Eleventh Circuit.

Ms. Segalini is a 1996 graduate of the University of Miami School of Law and received her Bachelor’s Degree, with honors, from Emory University. She began her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney at the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, where she conducted dozens of jury and non-jury trials. After moving to Orlando, Florida, she focused her practice on complex insurance cases and employee benefits litigation. For over a decade, until March 2015, she was a member of Akerman LLP’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group and its Employee Benefits and ERISA Litigation and Insurance Business Teams. More recently, she was a Partner and member of the Life, Health, Disability & ERISA Litigation Group of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, and the Health and Disability Insurance Group of McDowell Hetherington.

Ms. Segalini is a member of the Florida Bar and is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida, and the District Court for the District of Columbia. She is a member of the Life, Health & Disability Committee of the Defense Research Institute and the Federal Bar Association.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children and being actively involved in her community and children’s school activities.
