As reported in the July 2009 issue of the New Jersey eAuthority, the New Jersey Family Leave Insurance (NJFLI) program became effective on July 1, 2009. Governor Jon Corzine announced on September 24, 2009 that, to date, 5,407 residents have been granted family leave insurance benefits. Of these claims, 4,368 were for bonding with a newborn or newly-adopted child, and 1,040 were for the care of a seriously ill family member.
