On March 5, 2009, a bill (A3782) was introduced to prevent striking workers from receiving unemployment benefits even if their employer continues its operations during the strike. This bill is in response to the recent New Jersey Supreme Court decision in Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County v. Board of Review, 197 N.J. 339 (2009), in which the Court held striking employees were entitled to receive unemployment benefits as their strike did not cause a stoppage of work.
