All employers, including those in Alabama, are facing increasing pressure to disclose pay data and declare pay equity. In 2019, Alabama joined many other states by enacting pay equity legislation. The push for pay equity in Alabama continues and the state recently established the Alabama Workforce and Wage Gap Task Force. In this briefing, we will provide an overview of the various types of disclosure obligations and new pay equity state laws and trends that could impact Alabama employers. We also will discuss pay equity best practices, including how to conduct effective pay equity audits, and address some unintended consequences of the pay equity and workplace disclosure movement.
