Arkansas’s Minimum Wage Will Start to Climb in 2019

The New Jersey Division on Civil Rights (DCR) recently added updated English and Spanish versions of its Discrimination in Employment poster (as well as its Public Accommodation and Housing posters) to its website, with the new versions bearing a revision date of 5/27/14 (superseding the 8/07 versions). The posters now include pregnancy among the list of protected categories (incorporating a bill signed into law in January 2014) and updated contact information for the DCR.

On January 13, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States issued an opinion staying preliminary injunctions issued in cases filed in Missouri and Louisiana challenging the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) COVID-19 vaccination mandate for healthcare providers. The ruling stayed preliminary injunctions applicable to twenty-four states. Twenty-five states were already subject to enforcement under the CMS rule. This left Texas standing alone and in limbo.

On August 6, 2007, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich signed into law H.B. 1795, the Employee Classification Act. Under the new law, construction workers are automatically deemed to be employees of the contractor unless the worker meets the specific exceptions set forth in the Act. As Governor Blagojevich explained, the purpose of the new law is “to increase protections for workers” by ensuring they are protected by basic employment and labor laws and “to help law-abiding contractors, who are being underbid by contractors who misclassify their workers [as independent contractors].”
