The registration period for the annual immigrant visa (“green card”) lottery opened on October 2 and will close on November 30. Pursuant to the “Diversity Lottery,” 50,000 immigrant visas are available. Persons born in countries that have sent a large number of immigrants to the United States within the past five years are ineligible. This includes persons born in Canada, mainland China, Mexico, the Philippines and the United Kingdom. Applicants must also possess a high school education or equivalent OR possess two years of recent experience in an occupation that requires two years of training or experience to perform.
