On November 19, 2012, the New Jersey Assembly had a second reading of a bill (A2878) that would, among other things, prohibit employers from seeking or requiring current or prospective employees to disclose their usernames or passwords for personal social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter. The Assembly already passed a prior version of this bill, as did the Senate. This latest review by the Assembly is to concur with recent minor Senate amendments (to exempt the Department of Corrections, State Parole Board, county corrections departments, and all state or local law enforcement agencies from the provisions of the bill). It appears likely that A2878 will reach Governor Christie’s desk in the weeks to come.
