37th Office Expands Western Reach

ATLANTA, GA – January 29, 2010 – Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), the nation’s third largest labor and employment law firm, announced that the firm will open an office in Denver on February 1.  The move increases the firm’s presence in the western United States and is in response to client demand.  Steve Moore, formerly with Baker Hostetler, will lead the office as managing shareholder.  Joining Moore will be Roger Trim, also from Baker Hostetler, as an associate.  The firm expects additional attorneys to join the Denver office in the near future.

“By opening an office in Denver, Ogletree Deakins is strategically positioned to better serve clients in Colorado and in the Mountain West.  Not only will we be able to provide excellent service and counsel in this area of the country, our clients will also benefit from the vast experience that Steve Moore brings to the table, especially with respect to class action litigation,” said Ogletree Deakins’ Managing Shareholder Kim Ebert.

Moore exclusively represents management, both domestic and international, throughout the western United States in a wide range of labor and employment law disputes.  He is nationally recognized for his class action experience and defense of employers in large scale class actions filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).  In his career, Moore has defended Colorado employers in some of the largest employment-related class action cases in the state.

Moore has significant experience representing employers in the healthcare, transportation, media, energy, technology, electronics, hospitality, retail and financial services industries.  He handles all types of employment-related matters, including discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful discharge, breach of contract, noncompete and wage and hour cases.  His litigation experience includes defending employers against collective actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state wage and hour laws; defending companies against pattern and practice discrimination cases filed by the EEOC and the U.S. Department of Justice; and representing governmental entities in cases involving allegations of constitutional violations.  Moore’s clients also seek his proactive counsel on strategic planning and human resources issues including reductions in force, affirmative action plans, wage and hour compliance, the development of personnel policies, employment contracts and noncompete agreements.

“Ogletree Deakins has the national reach, resources, and bench strength that will allow me to provide representation to clients throughout the country with large scale cases.  The firm has a premier class action practice, which I look forward to expanding in the Rocky Mountain West,” said Moore.

Moore is an active member of the American Bar Association’s Section of Labor and Employment Law.  He presently serves as a Co-Editor of its Labor and Employment Law newsletter and is a former Employer Chair of its Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee.  He earned his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law in 1993, where he was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for Corporations.  He holds a B.A. from Old Dominion University, awarded in 1989.

With the addition of the Denver office, Ogletree Deakins now has 37 locations across the United States.  In January, the firm opened its 36th office in Las Vegas.  The firm expects synergies between its new western offices, combined with its established presence in the West, to add a tremendous level of client service and assistance to employers with their labor and employment law needs.
