Jan Michelsen Selected as a National Delegate for Vision 2020

Michelsen one of only two delegates selected from Indiana 

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – May 20, 2010 – Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), one of the nation’s largest labor and employment law firms, is pleased to announce that Jan Michelsen, has been selected as a national delegate for Vision 2020.  Her selection was announced at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. yesterday.  

Vision 2020 is national, decade-long project, from the Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at Drexel University College of Medicine, focused on advancing gender equality and energizing the dialogue about women and leadership via an action agenda to move America toward equality by inspiring and engaging new generations of women and men.
 
Of her selection, Michelsen said, “The project allows me to mobilize my individual and professional skills, talents, perspectives, and resources to bring about positive change.  I am honored to be one of only two selected from the state of Indiana.” 

More than 1,000 women registered and more than 400 delegate applications were received to serve as a national delegate.  From there, two delegates from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia were selected. Each national delegate is a woman nominated by an organization, or individuals,  and meets the following criteria: has demonstrated a commitment to helping women and/or girls; commits to serving a three-year term as a delegate; is an industry leader; is willing to mobilize her individual and professional resources to bring about positive change in one of the seven topic areas; and can implement elements of the decade-long Vision 2020 agenda that is developed during the 2010 American Conversation.

Vision 2020’s first public event will Oct. 21-22, 2010, when the congress of national delegates meets in Philadelphia to launch an action agenda to move America toward equality by 2020, the centennial celebration of the 19th Amendment.

In her practice, Michelsen concentrates on counseling and defending management in all areas of labor and employment law in federal and state courts and before regulatory agencies, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour, non-competition, leaves of absences, contract disputes,  Web 2.0 and electronic communications issues, wrongful discharge claim and other state torts.  Michelsen also counsels in the area of labor/management relations, union avoidance training, campaigns, arbitrations, and unfair labor practices.
