Ogletree Deakins Establishes Fellowship with Indiana University – Bloomington Maurer School of Law

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – May 2, 2011 – Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), one of the nation’s largest labor and employment law firms, in partnership with Indiana University – Bloomington Maurer School of Law, has established an annual fellowship recognizing the best all-around student in labor and employment law classes at the Maurer School of Law. The winner of the inaugural Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart Fellow in Labor & Employment Law is Ryan Nicholson. Nicholson will receive a $2,500 stipend and an honorary luncheon held at the Indianapolis office of Ogletree Deakins on Friday, May 6.

Dr. Kenneth G. Dau-Schmidt, a Willard and Margaret Carr Professor of Labor and Employment Law at Indiana University – Bloomington Maurer School of Law, was instrumental in the selection Nicholson for the award. “Ryan’s selection was based on his excellent work in the labor and employment law curriculum, his work in a summer internship with the National Labor Relations Board, and his commitment to future work and excellence in labor and employment law,” said Dau-Schmidt.

At the beginning of each Spring semester, students apply for the fellowship in which the law school identifies one student per academic year who has achieved the most in labor and employment law classes and related extra curricular activities, volunteer work, or externships. The student identified through the selection process is then recognized by the law school at the conclusion of the Spring semester as the Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart Fellow in Labor & Employment Law.
