DENVER, CO – July 11, 2011 – Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), one of the nation’s largest labor and employment law firms, welcomes Marcela Mendoza as Of Counsel to the firm’s Denver office. Mendoza focuses her practice on business immigration and affirmative action programs as well as compliance evaluations and administrative review actions initiated by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, Mendoza served as in-house counsel for Qwest Communications/CenturyLink.
Mendoza has extensive experience in all aspects of employment-based immigration, including visa petitions, adjustment of status, I-9 compliance, and E-verify regulations. She also counsels employers, both domestic and abroad, in working through consular processing of both nonimmigrant and immigrant visas. Mendoza also has experience preparing and implementing affirmative action plans, and advising employers and management with respect to prospective employees, including background checks, applicant screening and testing, and accommodation for applicants with disabilities.
Earlier in her career, Mendoza’s worked in the Colorado Attorney General’s office and she also clerked for Honorable Justice Gregory Hobbs of the Colorado Supreme Court. Mendoza is professionally active as a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Colorado Hispanic Bar Association, Colorado Bar Association, and the Denver Bar Association. She is also a Board Member of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Colorado Chapter and of the Mi Casa Resource Center.
Mendoza earned her J.D. from the University of Denver in 2000. She also studied at the Peace Palace Academy of International Law in The Hague, Netherlands, and Mexico’s University of Guanajuato School of Law. In 1995, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from Metropolitan State College of Denver.
