Nierman joins Ogletree Deakins from the Indianapolis office of Littler Mendelson P.C, where he was a founding member and served as managing shareholder from 2006 until 2012. A well-known labor attorney with more than 25 years practicing in the Indianapolis market and throughout the central Midwest, Nierman has successfully handled more than 100 union organizing campaigns and has negotiated dozens of collective bargaining agreements. Nierman’s arrival continues the firm’s tremendous growth which has seen it add more than 20 shareholders in 2013.

Nierman focuses his practice on a wide spectrum of labor and employment matters, including those related to the Family Medical Leave Act and National Labor Relations Act, employment discrimination, labor arbitrations, collective bargaining, and union avoidance. He has defended corporate campaigns in the health care industry, and regularly handles labor arbitrations, EEOC charges, DOL audits, and unfair labor practice charges and trials. He has also negotiated collective bargaining agreements in units as large as 1,500 employees and often handles large union organizing campaigns, in units as large as 2,000 employees, including hospitals, dialysis units, pharmacies and long term care facilities.
Nierman, who holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, has been named as one of the top labor and employment lawyers in Indiana by Chambers USA, Leading Business Lawyers in the USA (2012), and has been included in Indiana Super Lawyers (2006, 2008 to present) and the Best Lawyers in America (2007 to present). He is a member of United States Chamber of Commerce’s Labor Relations Committee and the NLRB Region 25’s Practice and Procedure Committee, and is the former chair of the Federal Labor Standards Legislation Committee of the American Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section.
A sought after speaker, Nierman regularly presents at healthcare industry, human resources, and Chamber of Commerce events and has lectured on issues related to labor and employment law to graduate students at Butler University and Indiana University. He earned his J.D. from the Vanderbilt University Law School and earlier received a B.B.A., with distinction, from the University of Michigan.
