ATLANTA – June 3, 2016 – Prominent legal news publication Law360 has recognized Ogletree Deakins as the No. 1 firm for black attorneys on the publication’s “The 10 Best Law Firms for Black Attorneys” list. Law firms on the list are ranked based on three factors: 1) the percentage of partners, both equity and nonequity, who self-identify as black; 2) the percentage of nonpartners who self-identify as black; and 3) the number of attorneys at the firm who self-identify as black.
“Ogletree Deakins distinguishes itself by combining professional development and diversity and inclusion, rather than siloing it away from the other important parts of the law firm,” Wimes said. “We created a black attorney resources group, which we developed in the last couple of years. In this group, we tackle things like ‘what is your brand,’ networking, client development, marketing, and even elevator pitches.”
Ogletree Deakins also recently earned an “A” for overall gender diversity on legal news publication Above the Law’s Law Firm Gender Diversity Index, a comprehensive database of firms and their gender diversity efforts.
“We are proud to provide an inclusive workplace where our women attorneys thrive,” said Michelle Wimes, director of Professional Development and Inclusion at Ogletree Deakins. “The Professional Development and Inclusion team, along with the Ogletree Deakins Women’s Initiative (ODWIN), have worked with our firm leadership to make the recruitment, engagement, and advancement of women attorneys a top priority.”
