Two Ogletree Deakins Attorneys named among 2018 Most Influential Black Lawyers in America

ATLANTA – July 9, 2018 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to announce that Danielle Ochs, a shareholder in the firm’s San Francisco office and Shafeeqa Giarratani, the managing shareholder of the firm’s Austin office, have been named in Savoy Magazine’s Summer 2018 issue as two of the 2018 Most Influential Black Lawyers in America. The list honors the “best of the best” Black lawyers that are partners in major national law firms, corporate and general counsel of Fortune 1000 corporations for their legal leadership and expertise in national and global – leading corporations. The 2018 issue focuses on lawyers whose professionalism, protection of rights and community service is extraordinary.

Ochs, the Co-Chair of the firm’s African American Business Resource Group, ODBAR, is also a member of the firm’s Diversity Steering Committee. With more than 20 years of experience representing both private and public employers in employment, trade secrets and unfair competition matters, Ochs has successfully defended employers in jury and bench trials, as well as arbitration proceedings. Ochs frequently speaks across the country on a broad range of employment issues and is a member of the Board of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area. She is the recipient of a number of prestigious awards, including the 2006, 2008 and 2009 National Bar Association Presidential Award for Outstanding Service and was named the 2006 UC Hastings College of the Law Alumnus of the Year, Black Alumni Chapter/BLSA. Ochs earned her J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of the Law and her B.A. from the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Giarratani, the managing shareholder of the Austin office, is also a member of the firm’s Diversity Steering Committee. Giarratani regularly handles litigation matters at the trial and appellate level, in alternative dispute resolution and before governmental agencies. A skilled advocate, she has successfully represented employers in a wide range of employment – related matters, including civil rights, wrongful discharge, Family and Medical Leave, Fair Labor Standards Act, employment tort, defamation, breach of contract and tortious interference issues. She specializes in advising her clients on whistleblower employment issues, and handles both litigation and investigations in this area. Recognized both nationally and locally for her accomplishments, Giarratani was named by Law 360 as a 2016 Rising Star and as a Super Lawyer – Texas Rising Star. She was also named to the 2017 Best Lawyers in America list. Giarratani received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her A.B. from Harvard University.
