PITTSBURGH – October 29, 2020 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, welcomes Rick Etter to its Pittsburgh office as shareholder. Mr. Etter is an experienced counselor and trial attorney whose practical, proactive approach to solving workplace problems enables employers to stay in compliance and avoid litigation while also achieving their organizational and business goals. He represents employers in a variety of industries, including financial services, healthcare, higher education, energy, oil and gas, retail, manufacturing, and transportation and logistics.
Because litigation is not always avoidable, Mr. Etter is regularly called upon to defend employers in wage and hour collective and class actions, class actions under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, single and multi-plaintiff discrimination and retaliation cases, and trade secret and non-compete matters.
When not defending employers in litigation, Mr. Etter provides advice and counsel on a wide range of labor and employment issues, such as recruitment and hiring, performance management, discipline and discharge, leave and accommodations, wage and hour compliance, enforcement of non-compete agreements, protection of trade secrets, reductions in force, employment and separation agreements, and implementation of personnel policies and procedures. He also negotiates and drafts employment and restrictive covenant agreements and conducts workplace investigations, training, and compliance audits.
Mr. Etter is active in the communities in which he works and lives, and he currently serves as a Council Member of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Allegheny County Bar Association. He earned his undergraduate degree from Shippensburg University and his law degree from Cornell Law School.
“Employment law-related litigation continues to rise with no signs of abating, meaning that clients must always be vigilant, especially with the arduous task of keeping up with the constant changes related to employment laws and regulations,” said Mike Glass, office managing shareholder of Ogletree Deakins’ Pittsburgh office. “Rick, along with his background and commitment to quality representation, is a strong advocate for his clients and strives to obtain outcomes that align with his client’s business objectives.”
