SAN FRANCISCO – February 28, 2024 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to welcome Richard Rahm as a shareholder in the firm’s San Francisco office. Rahm joins Ogletree Deakins from Littler Mendelson, where he was a shareholder and served as co-chair of the firm’s Transportation Industry Practice Group.
For more than 30 years, Rahm has counseled and represented employers in jury trials, state and federal appeals, and arbitrations. He has particular experience handling wage and hour class action litigation for employers in the transportation, financial, and retail industries. In addition to handling complex legal matters under the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act, and the Federal Arbitration Act, Rahm has held the lead role in several significant California Labor Code Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) cases. This includes filing an Amicus Brief on behalf of the California Employment Law Council (CELC) in the Viking River Cruises v. Moriana case before the Supreme Court of the United States.
“New PAGA and class action employment filings in California reached record numbers in 2023. This trend is of chief concern for California employers, and as such, we are thrilled to welcome Richard, who has a proven success record in handling these complex litigation matters,” said Lisa Hamasaki, office managing shareholder of Ogletree Deakins’ San Francisco office. “Richard’s extensive experience will serve as an immediate asset to both the firm and our clients.”
Rahm is active in his legal and local communities, including serving on the Board of Directors for the California Supreme Court Historical Society, the Northern District of California Historical Society, and Special Olympics of Northern California and Nevada. He is also a member and frequent speaker of the American Trucking Associations. Rahm earned his Ph.D. and J.D. from Berkeley School of Law at the University of California at Berkley, his M.Litt from St. Peter’s College, Oxford University, and his B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles.
