Catherine Catoe is an associate in the Ogletree Deakins Charlotte office. She assists clients with a wide range of employment matters, including the defense of independent contractor misclassification claims and class action matters, as well as the negotiation of independent contractor agreements. Catherine also provides day-to-day advice on a variety of employment issues that may arise from hire through separation.

Catherine has assisted in representing clients in class action cases and independent contractor misclassification lawsuits for both national and international companies across various states. She has experience defending employers in employee-related lawsuits alleging wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and contract disputes. Her defense work includes claims under various laws, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 1981, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, and relevant state laws.

Catherine regularly advises employers in responding to investigations by federal and state agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the North Carolina Department of Labor, and the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission. She also reviews and updates employee handbooks, policies, agreements, and various contracts to ensure they comply with legal requirements, while advising clients on best practices.

Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, Catherine clerked for Retired Chief Judge James E. Lockemy and Acting Judge Jan Bromell Holmes at the South Carolina Court of Appeals. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina’s Joseph F. Rice School of Law.

In her free time, Catherine enjoys spending time with family and friends, listening to podcasts and audiobooks, exploring interior design, and relaxing in the mountains.
