Emily is of counsel in the Los Angeles office of Ogletree Deakins. Emily focuses her practice on defending and representing employers against claims for discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and failure to accommodate, as well as various Labor Code wage and hour claims. She has extensive experience responding to charges brought before California’s Civil Rights Department and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, representing employers in administrative hearings, resolving matters pre-litigation either informally or through private mediation, as well as litigating claims in both state and federal courts and in arbitration.
In addition to litigating, Emily is a member of Ogletree Deakins’ California advice group and regularly counsels employers on day-to-day employment matters, including employee discipline, wage and hour issues, hiring and terminations, internal investigations, workplace accommodations, and other litigation avoidance practices. Emily also specializes in reputation management and advises employers on layoffs/Reductions in Force (RIFs) and best practices in relation to drug testing and other developing areas of law. Emily enjoys learning about her clients’ industries and routinely assists employers in drafting policies, employee handbooks, and employment-related agreements to ensure compliance with applicable law while also serving the employer’s individual business needs.
