James M. McGrew

Chief Client Services Officer || Atlanta

Mr. McGrew is the firm’s Chief Client Services Officer and is responsible for overseeing the firm’s strategic business development and marketing initiatives. In his role, Mr. McGrew manages the firm’s Client Services Department, which includes business development, public relations, events, publications, marketing, and other functions. He works with firm attorneys and practice groups on developing proposals for clients and potential clients, as well as other business development and marketing initiatives. He also develops value billing/alternative fee offerings, and he leads the firm initiative on conducting client assessment surveys. Additionally, Mr. McGrew serves as a speaker and moderator on various topics at events conducted by Ogletree and other organizations. 

Prior to joining Ogletree, Mr. McGrew served for eight years as in-house legal counsel and director of human resources for Emeril’s Homebase, the corporate headquarters for Chef Emeril Lagasse’s restaurant and related operations. Prior to that, Mr. McGrew was a partner in a law firm in New Orleans, representing management in labor and employment law matters.

Mr. McGrew is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and a Fellow in the Louisiana Bar Foundation. Mr. McGrew formerly served as president of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Louisiana Chapter, and he is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He is also a member of the Legal Marketing Association and has a Green Belt certification from Legal Lean Sigma.

Mr. McGrew has a broad range of experience, having served for years as a practicing attorney in law firms, as in-house counsel and director of human resources, and now as Chief Client Services Officer for Ogletree. Mr. McGrew practiced labor and employment law in New Orleans, where he focused on employment litigation and day-to-day counseling of clients. During his time in private practice, Mr. McGrew was a frequent speaker on employment law topics to management groups.  

After practicing law in the law firm setting for a number of years, Mr. McGrew became the in-house legal counsel and director of human resources for Emeril’s Homebase, the corporate headquarters for Chef Emeril Lagasse’s restaurant and related operations. In that capacity, he led the in-house legal and human resources functions for the company, which included responsibility for all aspects of human resources, including development of policies and procedures, employee benefits, management training, and employment-related legal issues.

Mr. McGrew joined Ogletree in 2008, initially as Client Relations Executive, and subsequently as Chief Marketing Officer, and Chief Client Services Officer.
