Matthew Schmidt comes to the firm with well over a decade of experience with the Superior Courts of California. In addition to significant experience drafting tentative rulings in complicated civil law and motion matters such as class action certification and approval of settlement, Matthew has presented at regional conferences on emerging aspects related to court administration and access to justice. He has also managed and supervised multiple departments and has provided guidance and drafted policy directives regarding court implementation of changes in law and practice. The impartiality of court operations has taught Matthew to carefully examine both sides of legal disputes (particularly their strengths and weaknesses) which allows him to guide clients with exploring realistic, sustainable, and beneficial options.
Before law school, Matthew worked in the aviation industry and was a wildland firefighter with the United States Forest Service. He holds a Bachelor in Arts degree in History from California State University, Northridge, and a Juris Doctorate from the San Joaquin College of Law.
