Norma Manjarrez is a shareholder in the Chicago office of Ogletree Deakins. She assists employers of all sizes and across various industries in several aspects of the labor and employment relationship. Norma is experienced in handling a variety of matters before the National Labor Relations Board, representing management in labor negotiations, advising employers through union organizing campaigns and elections, and defending employers in arbitration. She is also experienced in handling the labor and employment due diligence aspects of mergers and acquisitions. She has conducted labor and employment due diligence in a ~1.35 billion-dollar stock purchase of a multi-state unionized company and a multimillion-dollar asset purchase of a unionized facility, where she negotiated the initial terms and conditions following the acquisition. She has also performed high profile investigations implicating sensitive labor relations issues.
She regularly counsels human resources professionals and in-house counsel on wage and hour issues, employment handbooks and policies, compliance with federal and state anti-discrimination statutes, including anti-harassment training in English and Spanish, and terminations.
Norma co-chairs the firm’s Latinx affinity group, ODAdelante. She is a member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and the Hispanic National Bar Association. She is the 2022 recipient of the firm’s David E. Jones Diversity Champion Award, which honors an Ogletree Deakins attorney who actively champions diversity, equity, and inclusion within the firm, in the community, and in themselves.
Norma is a board member of the City of Chicago Board of Ethics, which administers Chicago’s Governmental Ethics and Campaign Financing Ordinances and a board member of the City Colleges of Chicago Foundation, a nonprofit organization that focuses on raising charitable contributions to support community college students from all backgrounds.
