As a member of the Ogletree Deakins Cross-Border Practice Group, Patty Shapiro advises companies on establishing and managing global workforces, including legal considerations when using global independent contractors and contingent workers. She counsels clients on options to lawfully employ in any particular country, background check regulations, visas and employment agreement requirements. Her expertise includes best practices for global policies, required disciplinary procedures, termination and redundancy requirements, mergers and acquisitions, and data privacy and artificial intelligence compliance.
Patty’s focus on international law pervades her education and career. Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, she served as VP of International Compliance & Legal for a global contingent workforce management company. Academically, she studied international business and tax law at the University of San Diego, studied abroad at the University of Copenhagen Faculty of Law, and authored works on international GMO legalities. Patty was also an editor of the San Diego International Law Journal, and she competed in Vienna in an international arbitration moot court.
