Rita serves as an Associate in the firm’s Raleigh office, focusing her practice on labor and employment matters. Rita combines the experience of an Administrative Law Judge and private practice to assist employers in avoiding and defending labor and employment law claims. Rita concentrates her practice on responding to EEOC charges, wrongful discharge litigation, employment discrimination, and actions brought under state and federal laws in North Carolina and Kentucky. Rita regularly guides employers and their carriers in avoiding litigation by negotiating favorable settlements and by providing training and counseling on a variety of workplace issues.
Prior to joining the firm, Rita assisted employers in the areas of labor and employment, including worker classification, co-employment issues, work health (ADA, FMLA, GINA) matters, non-competes, and wage and hour compliance in Kentucky. Rita regularly defended employers in federal and state courts and agencies (including the EEOC, U.S. DOL, and U.S. DOJ) against discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour claims and whistleblower claims. Rita has also served as an Administrative Law Judge at the North Carolina Industrial Commission before transitioning to private practice where she successfully defended numerous employers and insurance carriers in the area of worker’s compensation. She has also prosecuted criminal misdemeanors and felonies as an Assistant District Attorney in North Carolina and served as a Legislative Research Attorney for members of the North Carolina General Assembly.
