Ryan T. Chuman

Of Counsel   |   Los Angeles

Ryan T. Chuman is of counsel in the Los Angeles office of Ogletree Deakins. His practice includes the representation of management in employment litigation matters before state and federal courts, as well as federal and state agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Civil Rights Department. In this role, Ryan has extensive experience defending clients facing a broad range of employment-related litigation claims that include both single-plaintiff and multi-plaintiff race, age, religion, national origin, disability and sex discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliatory discharge, wrongful termination, whistleblower claims, wage and hour issues, Private Attorney General Act (PAGA) actions, and class actions. Ryan advises corporations, not-for profit companies, and private entities in a variety of industries who benefit from his experience gained in litigation and trial.

Ryan dedicates a substantial portion of his practice to preventative counseling to help his clients navigate legal and business workplace challenges. He regularly advises clients on issues such as risk-management, hiring and termination, drafting and auditing employee handbooks and workplace policies, wage and hour compliance, employee discipline, internal complaints and investigations, and disability and leave management issues faced by today’s employers.

Ryan understands that a lawyer-client relationship does not exist solely in the context of litigation but develops by way of communication and transparency. He works closely with clients to provide on-going legal support and counsel, partnering with clients to educate staff and management in all areas of employment law, and advocating for proactive risk management and litigation avoidance.

As a law student, Ryan gained extensive experience as an extern for the Honorable Barry Russell of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Central District of California. This experience enables Ryan to look at issues from both the court’s and advocate’s perspective, helping him to better serve his clients.
