Ryan Van Buren helps clients navigate employment-related lawsuits. He advises clients on risk mitigation and compliance to avoid litigation, and when litigation occurs, zealously defends clients in an effective manner.
Ryan primarily focuses on representing clients in a variety of single-plaintiff employment litigation, including suits under Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, the FMLA, the FLSA, and other anti-discrimination laws, contract-related disputes, and employment-related torts. Ryan additionally provides strategic advice to managers and HR professionals on a wide range of day-to-day employment matters, including: employee separations, severance agreements, employee handbooks, and personnel policies.
Ryan grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. He earned both a B.S. in Mathematics and a B.M. in Music from the University of South Carolina in 2016, graduating cum laude. Ryan then attended law school at the University of South Carolina where he similarly exceeded academically. While in law school, Ryan was the Associate Editor in Chief of the South Carolina Law Review, and he received CALI Awards in Conflicts of Law, Law and Economics, and Appellate Advocacy. Ryan graduated law school with the honor of Order of the Wig and Robe, a designation reserved for those who graduate in the top 15% of the class.
Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, Ryan began his career advising and representing employers in workers’ compensation matters for a local law firm.
