Charles L. Thompson IV is co-founder and co-leader of the Ogletree Deakins Leave of Absence and Reasonable Accommodation Practice Group. He also is one of the leaders of the California Advice Group. He counsels employers in California and federal leaves of absence, California and federal reasonable accommodations, paid sick leave, county and city employment ordinances, ADA compliance, wage and hour compliance, discipline, termination, and trade secrets and unfair competition.
Charles also takes cases through jury verdict. Charles’ jury trials include reasonable accommodation, sexual harassment, and wrongful termination in violation of public policy.
He represents employers in traditional labor law matters. He advises and represents employers in collective bargaining. He also represents employers in matters before the National Labor Relations Board, including in unfair labor practice and representation hearings. In addition, he represents employers in discharge and contract interpretation arbitrations.
Charles is a frequent speaker to business groups and conducts training for employment-related issues, including sexual harassment, workplace violence, workplace investigations, managing the borderline employee, and avoiding wrongful termination claims.
Charles was a judicial clerk for The Honorable Patrick E. Higginbotham of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He has been a faculty member of San Francisco Law School, where he taught constitutional law and employment discrimination law.
Charles also has served as President of and outside counsel to Mission Neighborhood Centers, a non-profit organization providing Head Start and social services to the Mission District in San Francisco, California. In addition, he has served as First Vice President, Secretary, and outside counsel to the NAMES Project Foundation, sponsor of the AIDS Memorial Quilt.
