Joel litigates his cases efficiently and effectively, always planning his next action to achieve the best resolutions for his clients. When litigation is necessary, Joel uses his experience as a first-chair litigator to independently develop case strategies, investigate and gather evidence, draft winning dispositive motions, and try cases.
As a Deputy Attorney General for the California Department of Justice’s Employment Law Section, Joel defended state agencies against claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and failure to accommodate. Joel has successfully defended against claims by even the most sympathetic plaintiffs by carefully crafting the litigation strategy at the outset, conducting targeted discovery, and marshalling the evidence.
As a Research Attorney for the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, dozens of judges relied on Joel to draft decisions in complex employment and writ proceedings. Joel drafted decisions that judges often adopted in full and were regularly affirmed on appeal.
As an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the New York City Law Department, Joel handled a demanding caseload defending Bronx police officers in civil rights cases alleging false arrest, malicious prosecution, and excessive force. Joel’s trial success earned him the Tort Division Chief’s Award.
Outside of his legal practice, Joel enjoys spending time with his wife chasing after their three energetic children.
