INDIANAPOLIS, IN – May, 10, 2011 – Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), one of the nation’s largest labor and employment law firms, is pleased to welcome Ann Carr Mackey and Catherine (Cathie) Reese as shareholders to the firm’s Indianapolis office. Previously, both were partners at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP where Mackey was head of the firm’s benefits practice based in Indianapolis.

“Both Ann and Cathie are well known and respected ERISA compliance lawyers,” said Kristin Keltner, managing shareholder of the firm’s Indianapolis office. “In their decision to join Ogletree Deakins, we have developed a deep bench of employee benefits lawyers to serve our clients not only in Indiana, but also throughout the Midwest and the firm’s national platform.”

Mackey brings more than 30 years of experience to Ogletree Deakins. She assists clients in all aspects of their employee benefits plans and advises employers about their obligations under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Mackey also advises buyers and sellers of businesses on employee benefit issues arising before and after mergers and acquisitions; advises companies regarding the setup and operation of company-owned and operated medical clinics for the benefit of employees; and advises companies in financial distress concerning the administration and/or termination of employee benefit plans.

Reese’s practice focuses on qualified retirement plans, welfare benefit plans, and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. Her experience includes the handling of benefits issues involved in business transactions, such as due diligence, termination, spin-off, merger of existing plan benefits, and design and implementation of new plans. She also assists both private and public employers with Internal Revenue Service and Department of Labor filings, audits, and queries.

Reese earned her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 1989.  She also holds a B.S. from Purdue University.
