ATLANTA – February 8, 2016 – Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to announce that Charles B. Baldwin and Joseph L. Beachboard have been elected to the position of Managing Director. The Managing Directors are members of the firm’s Board of Directors, and, along with Managing Shareholder C. Matthew Keen, make up the Executive Committee of the Board, responsible for the strategic direction and daily affairs of the firm. Baldwin, a Shareholder in the firm’s Indianapolis office and member of the firm’s Board of Directors, has served in this role since 2014. Beachboard, a Shareholder in Ogletree Deakins’ Los Angeles and Torrance offices who also has served as the firm’s Chief Strategy Officer, is elected to the role for the first time.
Baldwin has held numerous leadership roles with Ogletree Deakins since joining the firm in 2000. He has served on Ogletree Deakins’ Board of Directors since 2011 and was previously the Managing Shareholder of the firm’s Indianapolis office. Baldwin has devoted his 30-year legal career to representing employers in a full range of labor and employment matters, including lawsuits involving Equal Employment Opportunity claims, labor arbitrations, National Labor Relations Board proceedings, wage and hour disputes, union avoidance, employment contracts, non-competition and trade secret disputes, and class and collective action litigation.
An active member of the Indianapolis community, Baldwin serves on the Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors and is a Charter Member of the American Employment Law Council. He has been recognized for his accomplishments throughout his career, including being elected as a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and being listed as one of the top labor and employment lawyers in Indiana by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, and Super Lawyers. He holds an AV® Preeminent™ rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been named to the BTI Client Service All-Stars list. Baldwin earned his J.D. from the University of Dayton.
Beachboard, who joined Ogletree Deakins in 2001 and was the firm’s first lawyer in California, helps employers avoid work-related legal exposure, including providing training to a variety of high-profile organizations. He regularly speaks at large employment law conferences around the country and has been quoted in a number of prestigious publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, National Law Journal, and HR Magazine. In his role as Chief Strategy Officer, Beachboard has been responsible for developing, leading, and implementing the firm’s strategy, growth initiatives, and major events, including the annual multi-day Workplace Strategies seminar. For more than a decade, he also served as Client Services Shareholder, overseeing the firm’s marketing, business development, and communications efforts.
Beachboard brings significant business experience to the role of Managing Director, having served as President of The Labor Letters Inc. from 1991 to 2001. The company provided information services, resources, and practical advice to 10,000 employers on labor and employment law developments in 26 states. Beachboard earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law and began his practice at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky and Walker in Los Angeles.
