Ogletree Deakins Expands Employment Practice in New York City, Adds Stephen Macri and Joseph Cartafalsa as Shareholders

NEW YORK CITY – February 1, 2018 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to welcome Stephen (Steve) Macri and Joseph (Joe) Cartafalsa as shareholders in the firm’s New York City office. Macri and Cartafalsa join Ogletree Deakins from Putney, Twombly, Hall & Hirson, where Macri served as chair of the firm’s labor and employment group and on the firm’s executive committee and Cartafalsa was a partner.

Macri’s practice focuses on traditional labor law, as well as employment counseling and employment-related litigation. He has represented clients in a wide range of industries, including news media and information services, non-profit healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, social service providers, and foster care agencies. Macri has counseled employers on discrimination and sexual harassment, collective bargaining and other union matters, personnel policy development, mergers and corporate restructures, employment agreements, wage and hour issues, and occupational safety and health. He is a 1985 graduate of Cornell University.

Cartafalsa’s practice primarily consists of employment litigation and counseling, including trade secret and non-compete litigation. He has counseled clients on layoffs, mergers, corporate restructures, sexual harassment, discrimination, medical leaves and accommodations, and employment contracts. His practice also includes the defense of class/collective actions, multiple and single plaintiff claims before federal and state courts, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and administrative agencies. Cartafalsa is a 1992 graduate of Fordham University School of Law and a 1989 graduate from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations. He is very active in Cornell University and Fordham Law School alumni affairs—currently serving as President of the Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations Alumni Association.
