Ogletree Deakins Joins the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance

   |   Press Release

ATLANTA – June 29, 2020 – Ogletree Deakins is proud to announce that it has joined the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance (LFAA), a national collaborative of more than 125 law firms united in identifying and dismantling structural or systemic racism in the law.

The Alliance’s charter states its purpose as “leveraging the resources of the private bar in partnership with legal services organizations to amplify the voices of communities and individuals oppressed by racism, to better use the law as a vehicle for change that benefits communities of color, and to promote racial equity in the law.” LFAA aims to achieve this mission by creating large-scale, coordinated pro bono projects that are both immediate and long-term in scope.

“Ogletree Deakins joins the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance to advance its mission and as another step towards eradicating systematic racism in the law,” said Michelle Wimes, chief diversity and professional development officer at Ogletree Deakins. “Taking meaningful action is essential for this common goal and we are excited to work with other firms in achieving equality for all.”

Ogletree Deakins has a number of firm-wide initiatives aimed at supporting diversity and inclusion including ODBAR, which is the firm’s business resource group that creates and fosters an environment of inclusiveness for African-American and Black attorneys through active involvement in the firm’s business development, recruitment, retention, and advancement opportunities. Ogletree Deakins has also created an Equal Justice Taskforce for staff and attorneys to work together toward eradicating racial inequities in America. Ogletree Deakins ACT (Act, Change, and Transform) will take concrete actions aimed at improving racial justice in the legal profession and beyond. The leadership group for Ogletree Deakins ACT is comprised of members from all sectors of the firm, including the Board of Directors, C-Suite, administrative support team, and attorneys.
